Beattyville is a small city positioned within the beautiful hills of central Kentucky. It is located in Lee County and serves as the seat of government for the county. According to the United States Census Bureau, about 1,200 people were living in Beattyville in 2016. The city is the largest in Lee County.

Before European-American settlers arrived, original inhabitants of modern-day Beattyville were Native American Indians. White settlers who followed Daniel Boone through the Cumberland Gap arrived in the area in the 1800s and helped build Fort Boonesborough. These individuals defended the fort until they gained enough confidence to take the land upriver. Their efforts paved the way for Beattyville to be established as individuals crossed into Kentucky and followed the North Fork River downstream. By 1845, Lee County was established and the county seat was named Beatty Town. Years later, the named was changed to Beattyville.

Today, Beattyville is a beautiful city and home to many modern-day amenities. Individuals who visit Beattyville will find there are many attractions including beautiful parks as well as churches, wonderful education opportunities for residents, and more. Weather in Beattyville is very different each season. Throughout the months of December, January, and February, average daytime temperatures range from the low to upper-40s.
